Women in Torbay and Totnes

Set up in April 2016, Women in Torbay and Totnes (known as WiTT) aims to help women from all areas and types of business to meet on a regular basis, forge relationships and get to know people in a friendly and relaxed environment.

Events are planned every couple of months and past events include inviting a speaker from the local business or social community, a murder mystery evening, wine tasting, cocktail making, pig racing, a day at the races and a walk and talk where we organise a gentle stroll around one of our stunning local locations followed by breakfast or lunch. Previous walks have taken place at Cockington, Goodrington and Broadsands.

WITT events take places on different days, at different places at different times. To enable women to attend events (when they are often juggling may other commitments), the events range from breakfasts to afternoon tea and evening events. The venue also varies depending on the activity.

Over the years we have had a number of interesting speakers including Dawn Dines from Stamp out Spiking, Maureen Chivers, a dementia friends champion and Alison Hernandez, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The only event that does not change in recent years is one of our most popular – a Christmas event in Totnes that we hold on the first Tuesday in December, which coincides with the Christmas market. There is usually mulled wine and minced pies along with an activity. In previous years the activities have ranged from macrame and wreath making to a quiz and party games and even an opportunity to join together as a rock choir.

It’s a fun and friendly group with plenty of opportunity to chat and forge relationships with other women from the local business community.
